Who We Are

Many Hands Foundation is a California nonprofit corporation recognized as a public charity under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Many Hands was created and is staffed by volunteers who have organized and participated in mission work teams to South Africa in recent years. Our purpose is to continue launching and supporting volunteer work teams locally, nationally and internationally.

Our founding leaders, Mack and Mary Alice McKinney have been leading groups of people to many places around the world, for various purposes, including work teams, since 1969. Since 1992 they have led work teams to villages in the Mpumalanga Province, Republic of South Africa: Swallow’s Nest in 1992, Tjakastad in 2002, Hartebeeskop in 2004, and Silindile in 2006.

The Many Hands community is not limited to the founders, officers and directors of Many Hands Foundation. Who we are includes the many work team volunteers, their families, friends and supporters. Who we are includes all the African people who welcomed us, fed us, worked with us and celebrated with us. Who we are is everybody who bought a brick or donated a dollar or wrote a check. Who we are is Many Hands doing many small and large jobs, coming together as a growing multinational and multicultural community of kindred minds and spirits. Who we are can include you – are you ready to join us?
